Shaun graduated in 2005 with a degree in Environmental Planning and Design. Roy DeBoer, who spent his entire career teaching landscape architecture. Encouraged to get into the nursery business by his late father, Hluchy studied with the late professor Dr.
Hluchy went to public high school in Monroe Township then to Brookdale Community College and then transferred to Rutgers’ School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The brothers and their employees continue the vegetable growing endeavors their late father started, but given intense deer pressure in Monroe and much of the rest of central New Jersey, they are considering scaling that back in coming seasons. Shaun’s mother, the family matriarch and now 75, stays as involved as she wants to be and lives near the farming and nursery operation on Spotswood Gravel Hill Road. Thanks in part to their father’s foresight, planning and work ethic, all three brothers are now prospering at what is mostly a nursery and specialty shrub and tree facility. Raised on his father’s farm with his twin brother Bill and eldest brother Bob, Shaun was named “Farmer of the Year” for 2018 by the Middlesex County Board of Agriculture.Īsked about the name Tidbury Creek, Shaun said it was simply a name his father had come up with for a drainage pond on his property. Tragically, Hluchy’s father, Robert, died suddenly in 2003 while Shaun was finishing up his education at Rutgers University. To be sure, Shaun Hluchy has inherited his father’s work ethic.
